Since our April
Issue of the PPMA
News there have been a number
association of events which are being reported on in this issue such as:
·
Our 1st Annual
Conference and Trade Show
·
Our April Education
Seminar
·
Our inaugural member
awards (which were handed out at our May annual general meeting)
·
Our 4th annual charity
golf tournament
·
And much more
Our association
continues its strong growth welcoming new members and associate members, who
bring years of expertise and a wealth of knowledge that is invaluable to our
membership as a whole. We also
recognize our long term members, such as Globe General Agencies - with over ten
years of membership - that are the
backbone of our association and industry.
As I begin my
second year as your executive director I look forward to our continued success
in the aforementioned events and I also look forward to encouraging and
developing more member participation on our many committees as we collectively
work towards affecting change within the provincial and civic governments that
will enhance our industry, bring about the much needed revitalization and
refurbishment of our existing, deteriorating housing stock and looking to the
future of possible new construction of MDUs in the City of Winnipeg and across
Manitoba.
While we have
advanced our relationships with civic and provincial governments as well as
neighbourhood and tenant advocacy groups, there is still much more work to be
done before our common goals are realized.
And it will take the dedication, time and efforts of each member of our
association to bring about the desired changes.
According to
recent information supplied by CMHC, our industry houses over 36% of our
province’s population. These are
not merely numbers that can be ignored. We
represent the housing interests of over 1/3 of the voters and the message that
our association is fighting to provide them with safe, comfortable and
affordable housing must be driven home to the elected officials before we will
see our issues on the political platforms in this fall’s and subsequent
elections.
It is time for
each member of the PPMA to take an active role in furthering the interests of
our association and our industry, without which, ten more years from now nothing
will have changed except your membership anniversary date.
Tonya Moreton
Executive Director
