You say Tomatoe…I Say Tomato…Let’s Work It Out

Erin Gruber of the Manitoba Human Rights Commission and Linda Williams of the Winnipeg
Committee for Safety presented a seminar of conflict resolution and mediation to our members on
Thursday, May, 2003.

The seminar was well received with members becoming very interested not only in mediation and
conflict resolution but in the rights and responsibilities of property managers in matters pertaining
to human rights. Ms. Gruber offered excellent advice on specific and general scenarios. She also
mailed copies of the Manitoba Human Rights Code to all participants.

Ms. Williams discussed how projects such as the West Broadway Revitalization Project bring
residents and property owners/managers closer together, helping both sides to understand their
rights and obligations. This improves the relationship between both parties and helps to eliminate
the need for conflict resolution. She offered her advice to all present in their future endeavours.

In all, the 11 participants found this to be a worthwhile seminar where they learned about more
than expected.

This seminar marked the conclusion of another year of successful education for the PPMA.
