Education Seminar Review
By Avrom Charach, Education Chair

On September 12, 2001 over 20 participants attended a seminar on Condition Reports hosted and presented by Sophie Turko of Edgewood Estates. The seminar was introduced and moderated by Avrom Charach of Kay Four Properties, Education Chair.

The participants, comprised of PPMA member and non-PPMA member property managers, learned why condition reports are extremely important in the rental process and how to best fill them out, ensuring consistency and accuracy from report to report.

This seminar saw the introduction of a number of the PPMA’s new standardized forms:

  1. Move In/Move Out
  2. Checklist for Vacating Tenants
  3. Information for Vacating Tenants

The standard PPMA forms combine the best parts of many different members’ current condition reports and move in/out documents and are available for purchase from the PPMA office.

Many excellent questions were raised by the participants, both about condition reports and about move ins and move outs in general. It was borne out that the same issues are faced by landlords all over the city. The participants indicated that they found this seminar informative and helpful.

The seminar was so popular that some last minute requests for additional participants by other property managers, unfortunately had to be refused. Due to the overwhelming interest in this seminar, it will be repeated twice next year for other interested companies.

Our next seminar is scheduled for November 2001. The seminar topic will be "Dealing With The aging Tenant". The Manitoba Society of Seniors will share how we can best balance our desire not to interfere in the lives of our tenants, with our social responsibility to all of our tenants. This is an important topic given the aging demographic of today’s renters.
