The ABC's of Fraud session held on September 21st was well attended and the
volunteers delivered a fun and interesting session, which highlighted the
different types of fraud and included a video demonstrating some actual
examples.
As property owners and managers, it helps us to be aware of the different
schemes so that we can educate our residents. Apartments are vulnerable, because
once someone gets in, they can knock on doors and the opportunity is great.
The presenters did a great job explaining the program and encouraged
participants to make residents aware of the program as they are more than
willing to come to your building and speak to residents about fraud. Sessions
require 10-15 participants. The program is sponsored through Age & Opportunity
and Scotiabank. I would highly encourage you to take advantage of the program.

The Education Committee is also planning the November session which will either
be from Mediation Services or information on the Safer Communities and
Neighbourhoods Act. More information will follow when speakers and topics are
finalized.
The spring Suite Living conference is in the planning stages. Some interesting
education sessions are being planned. If anyone has any suggestions on topics,
they are very much appreciated. The conference sessions are for the benefit of
all members and your input can only make it better. Please contact the PPMA
office or myself. I can be reached at 942-0991 or e-mail me at lsocha@sam.mb.ca
Carol Laurence, Tonya Moreton and I look forward to delivering some great
